Several laws address VoIP-related fraud in India:

A. Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000

• Section 66D – Punishes cheating by impersonation using electronic communication (up to 3 years in jail & fine).
• Section 66C – Punishes identity theft (up to 3 years in jail & fine).

B.  Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023

• Section 316 – Cheating and fraud (up to 7 years in jail & fine). 
• Section 315 – Punishment for impersonation (up to 3 years in jail). 
• Section 327 & 328 – Forgery for cheating & using forged documents. 

C. Telegraph Act, 1885

• Section 20 – Illegal operation of telecom networks.

D. Consumer Protection Act, 2019

• Covers fraud in financial transactions involving VoIP calls.
