A. Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000
- Section 66D – Punishes cheating by impersonation using electronic communication (up to 3 years in jail & fine).
- Section 66C – Punishes identity theft (up to 3 years in jail & fine).
B. Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023
- Section 316 – Cheating and fraud (up to 7 years in jail & fine).
- Section 315 – Punishment for impersonation (up to 3 years in jail).
- Section 327 & 328 – Forgery for cheating & using forged documents.
C. Telegraph Act, 1885
- Section 20 – Illegal operation of telecom networks.
D. Consumer Protection Act, 2019
- Covers fraud in financial transactions involving VoIP calls.
