3. Fraudulent Overseas Job Placement Agency in Mumbai (2023)
Steps of the Fraud:
Establishment of a Fake Agency:
A fraudulent job placement agency was set up in Malad (West), Mumbai, claiming to offer overseas employment opportunities.
Luring Job Seekers:
The agency targeted individuals from various states, including Bihar, Gujarat, Kolkata, New Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, promising lucrative jobs abroad.
Collection of Fees:
A total of 125 job aspirants were collectively defrauded of approximately ₹1 crore, with each individual paying significant sums for the promised placements.
Non-Delivery of Promises:
After collecting the fees, the agency failed to provide any job placements or refunds to the victims.
Legal Action:
Upon realizing the fraud, the victims reported the agency to the authorities, leading to an investigation.
